Massimo De Lutiis is weighing up a potential switch to Ireland, with the IRFU understood to have made a significant offer to the highly rated Australian prop. Talks are ongoing, and while Rugby Australia remain keen to retain the 22 year old, the gap between the two offers is believed to be substantial. De Lutiis, who has already featured in Wallabies squads, is widely regarded as a future Test player.

The IRFU have previously moved to bring in Australian born players, most notably Mack Hansen, who has since become a top notch figure for Ireland. A similar move for De Lutiis would represent another significant addition, particularly given his potential at Test level. The prop is understood to qualify through his Irish heritage on his mother’s side.

Rugby Australia remain eager to retain De Lutiis, with discussions ongoing as they look to keep one of their most promising young forwards. The 22 year old has already been included in Wallabies squads, underlining the regard in which he is held and pointing towards a likely international debut in the near future.

Any potential switch would not be straightforward, however, with De Lutiis currently ineligible for Ireland selection due to his involvement with Australia A. There is added intrigue around the situation, with Australia v Ireland scheduled for Saturday, July 4 in Sydney.
